Studying India’s long history, one finds it's reflected in its history of paper. However, the three categories of paper — handmade, mould-made and industrial — have blurred the definition of what paper is and what it is made of. Nowadays, the historical tradition of papermaking has lost respect and visibility in India. The IAPMA Congress 2027 in Udaipur will focus on how paper as a plant-based material can contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). Across contexts, socio-economic, ground-level initiatives are needed to orient paper production towards sustainability. In India, the personal and professional networks established at the congress may further lead to collaborative workshops with artists, designers and craftspeople across borders and countries.

The aim and purpose for the IAPMA Congress 2027 in Udaipur is to raise knowledge and awareness of the historical, geographical, biological, cultural, chemical and aesthetical aspects of paper.
